Studies Weekly staff stand with Katrina Rouse, a loyal customer and the social studies coordinator for FSD1 in Florence, SC. It was so good to see you again, Katrina!

We attended the 97th NCSS Annual Social Studies Conference this year as we have for the past several years. For the first time in 30 years, the conference was in San Francisco.

More than 3,300 educators from all over the country attended the event this year, and we got to meet quite a few of them!

Official Adoption in California

You may have seen that we were recently officially adopted in the Golden State (and also recently in Florida)! We were thrilled to meet and share our products with hundreds of dedicated California educators. Many didn’t know before visiting our booth that our products cover 100% of the state standards for history-social science.

It was great to celebrate the adoption with teachers in California, and help them see the impact we can make in their classrooms. It feels great to be on the approved vendor list in California, and we are excited to work even more with California educators!

Studies Weekly Expert Presentations

Loki Mulholland with some of our Georgia teachers who were present at the conference. You guys are doing great things!

Over 900 leading social studies researchers were present at the conference to give presentations on relevant topics. In fact, two of Studies Weekly’s own provided some expert information.

Loki Mulholland is an award-winning film director and the son of notable civil rights activist and Freedom Rider Joan Trumpauer Mulholland. He was also responsible for the Veterans Day video assembly we did last month. Loki gave some great tips during his presentation on teaching civil rights in the classroom.

We are also proud to have Cody Erickson on our team to present at this social studies conference. Cody presented on Studies Weekly product processes and procedures.

Booth Setup

We set up in a 20×30 square foot booth with displays of samples of our publications. We had a great spot right by the door and loved seeing all the teachers as they came in. In addition to showcasing our print materials, we had tech illustrating our product, primary source media library, and digital tools.

Prize Giveaways

One of the lucky winners from our prize wheel. We wish you the same good luck next year!

One of our favorite things about NCSS conference this year was giving away awesome prizes to dozens of deserving teachers. Many of you were able to grab a swag bag, catch a demo, and spin our prize wheel. Over three days, we gave away 15 tablets, 18 Amazon Echos, and dozens of alarm clocks, classroom posters, and more.

While our feet are still tired, we are happy to have made new memories with many of you!

Plans for Future Social Studies Conference

For our next social studies conference, you can find us at ASCD Empower18: The Conference for Every Educator, which will be in Boston in March next year. If you’re going to be there, be sure to stop by our booth and say hi! If not, we will see you next year at NCSS 2018 in Chicago!

Studies Weekly Educational Tools Are in Florida!

Studies Weekly educational tools adopted in FloridaIn case you missed it, the State of Florida Department of Education has officially adopted the Studies Weekly educational tools for use in all K-5 classrooms for a five-year adoption term. Studies Weekly is officially adopted now in 8 states, including the recent adoption in California. You may have heard about the California adoption at the NCSS17 conference we enjoyed attending recently.

Educational Tools Available Statewide

What does this mean for Florida educators exactly? For starters, the official adoption puts us on the approved vendor list, making our educational tools more readily available for teachers. Our products are designed to help educators immerse their students in the Social Studies K-5 Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS) and the Language Arts Florida Standards (LAFS) in grades K-5 using only one student edition per week. The publications require minimal preparation. Each annual subscription includes 32 weekly units per grade. Our professional educators designed each issue so that you can teach it in just 120-180 minutes of class time per week.

Increased Student Engagement

Using our educational tools with classroom lessons creates a highly adaptable implementation and ensures completion of the correlated curriculum content. Teachers will enjoy flexibility when planning for differentiated instruction, inquiry-based learning, self-directed learning, and re-teaching. Your students will enjoy engaging with print and digital tools that we specifically designed to fit their educational needs.

Studies Weekly content includes vivid illustrations and colorful maps along with primary source pictures and documents that appeal to students. Studies Weekly’s hard copy of the publication involves students in their own learning because it is consumable. Writing, highlighting, and drawing on the product creates a sense of ownership of the content and allows for close reading.

“There is a lot that makes us different. We use a standards-based curriculum to engage students, build on prior learning, and develop critical thinking skills. Our format is age-appropriate, user-friendly, and less intimidating than traditional textbooks.”

California Has Adopted Our Social Studies Publications!

Studies Weekly is thrilled to welcome the State of California to our team of educators and administrators. The California State Board of Education has now officially adopted Studies Weekly, Inc. social studies publications for use in all K-6 classrooms for the next eight years!

One of a Kind Standards-Based Curriculum

We built our social studies curriculum to meet the History-Social Science Content Standards. In fact, ours are the only social studies publications and classroom tool of its kind. For the next eight years, Studies Weekly will continue to provide students in California with a well rounded social studies education. Each student will receive one online student edition of our publication for 36 weeks. Our dedicated team designed each weekly unit to cover the History-Social Science Content Standards in just two hours per week! We think this is pretty great, and we’re happy that officials in the great Golden State think so too.

Social Studies Publications Created by and for Teachers

Experienced, board-certified elementary school teachers author and develop our products. Many of these education professionals have advanced degrees. We work hard to ensure curriculum is appropriate for the intended students. Our product development team closely analyzes every activity, question, and assessment in our social studies publications. We use the Daggett’s Rigor and Relevance Framework to ensure high student achievement and success.

“Our exemplary scores on this evaluation mirror our team’s years of work and dedication to our product, as well as a profound understanding of the unique needs of all students regardless of background and ability.”
